Climate Preference
Thailand has a tropical climate with three distinct seasons.
Cool Season (November to February)
This is the most popular time to visit, with pleasant temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C (68°F to 86°F). It’s ideal for exploring cities, beaches, and northern regions.
Hot Season (March to June)
Temperatures can soar above 35°C (95°F), especially in April, the hottest month (Songkran Festival). Beach destinations remain popular, but stay hydrated and avoid midday sun.
Rainy Season (July to October)
Monsoon rains bring frequent downpours, particularly in the afternoons. While the countryside is lush and green, some islands in the Andaman Sea (e.g., Phuket) may have limited ferry services. The Gulf Coast (e.g., Koh Samui) is drier during this time.
Visa
Most American and European passport holders can enter Thailand visa-free for up to 30 days if arriving by air, or 15 days if entering by land. For longer stays, a 60-day tourist visa can be obtained from a Thai embassy or consulate before arrival. Always check the latest visa requirements, as regulations can change. Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your entry date.

Transportation in Thailand
Thailand boasts an extensive and affordable transportation network. In cities like Bangkok, the BTS Skytrain and MRT subway are efficient ways to navigate traffic. Tuk-tuks and taxis are widely available but always insist on using the meter or agreeing on a fare beforehand. For longer distances, domestic flights, trains, and buses connect major cities and tourist destinations. Motorbike rentals are popular in beach towns, but exercise caution and wear a helmet.
Power Plugs / Sockets
Power voltage in Thailand is Type A 220V / 50Hz.

Money Exchange / Cash
The official currency is the Thai Baht (THB). Here’s what you need to know about handling money in Thailand:
Currency Exchange
Exchange rates are generally better in Thailand than in your home country. Authorized money exchange booths (e.g., SuperRich) and banks offer competitive rates. Avoid exchanging money at airports or hotels, as rates are less favorable.
ATMs
ATMs are widely available in cities, towns, and tourist areas. They dispense Thai Baht and charge a 220 THB fee per withdrawal. Check with your bank about international withdrawal fees.
Cash vs. Cards
Cash is king in Thailand, especially in markets, street food stalls, and smaller establishments. Credit cards are accepted in hotels, upscale restaurants, and malls, but always carry cash for smaller vendors.
Tipping
Tipping is not mandatory but appreciated. For restaurants, rounding up the bill or leaving 10% is common. For taxis, tipping 20-50 THB is customary.
